Why New Zealand Wool?
New Zealand is blessed with a unique environment, which makes farming and agriculture the backbone of this country.
Our dedicated farmers produce some of the best quality wool in the world, utilising technology developed in New Zealand and around the world over centuries of sheep breeding programs.
welovewool captures this excellence and incorporates it into every garment.
EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY
New Zealand wool, unlike synthetic fibre, has a very complex structure. Over millions of years nature, enhanced with technology, has evolved wool to protect sheep in a variety of habitats and weather conditions. The result is a durable, natural, and superior fibre.
One important difference between wool fibre and any other is that wool is naturally elastic. It can be bent over 30,000 times without damage, so it works hard while keeping its shape.
You can be guaranteed of the quality of each and every one of our garments. These unique garments are manufactured in New Zealand, by New Zealanders. The fleece is handpicked by our rousies, as it falls off the sheep’s back. We only take the fleeces with traits which make our garments the best.
EXTREME CONDITIONS
New Zealand experiences a wide range of climatic conditions. The garments we wear must perform in wind, rain and snow. Our fibre has been tested in the harsh outdoors for centuries by resilient sheep.
Wool can absorb 30% of its weight in water and as it dries, wool naturally produces warmth, keeping us drier and warmer in the wet seasons.
Synthetic fibres can’t do this: if sheep were clothed in polyester they would perish in our extreme conditions.
Wool is fire resistant; it won’t melt at the sniff of a spark like synthetic fibres.
ENVIRONMENTALLY PRACTICAL
Wool is environmentally friendly from start to finish. Our wool is grown in the animal friendly green pastures of the South Island.
It is an annually renewable resource, which at the end of its life cycle is recyclable and biodegradable. Not many other materials on earth give so much and take so little.
EASY CARE
Wool is easily cleaned and resistant to damage. It’s excellent elasticity means it doesn’t wrinkle easily and its tough structure means stains can be easily wiped away.
Our garments are made from mid-micron South Canterbury Wool fibre, so they’re tough. Follow a few simple cleaning steps and your garment will love you forever.
ECONOMICALLY VIABLE
Despite international acclaim, the economic return for wool is poor. This is because of the rise of popularity in synthetic fibres.
In New Zealand, the very farmers who grow wool are wearing synthetic fibres.
We have decided to offer a product that leaves no room for excuses.
Our products look after farmers. Not only do we provide excellent work clothes, but we also have a staunch policy of $10 a kilo for all our growers.
Our garments are exceptional in quality and practicality in all New Zealand conditions.
